Do Cockroaches Stay in One Place or do They Move a Lot?

Do Cockroaches Stay in One Place or do They Move a Lot?

You can find cockroaches anywhere on the planet. For millions of years, cockroaches have been able to survive pretty much anywhere. Their adaptive nature allows them to live on very small amounts of food and they can eat just about anything. Not only that, but cockroaches have no trouble moving from place to place, so anyone’s home can fall victim to a cockroach infestation. If you think you have cockroaches and need help, call Cockroach Control Toronto now.

The most common cockroach in Canada is the German cockroach. This pest prefers kitchens and bathrooms where there is a lot of moisture and there are many places to hide. The German cockroach looks like a beetle, and it is fairly small as it grows only up to 16mm in length. Brown or tan in colour, this cockroach also has two horizontal black stripes that stretch down the back of its wings. Don’t worry – this roach doesn’t fly. The average cockroach lives for about 200 days, and in its lifetime, it can produce up to 300 offspring. Cockroaches are a health hazard. They have the potential to spread diseases and poison your food as they move from place to place.

Cockroaches are highly mobile. They can even run as fast as 5km per hour. And, as highly adaptable creatures, cockroaches have no problem settling into a new location. They don’t care whether your home is clean or not. Cockroaches will settle into any place that offers warmth and moisture. They may migrate from a neighbouring unit in your apartment building or get into your house through the plumbing. Cockroaches may also invade your living space by hitching a ride on a cardboard box, a piece of luggage, or a piece of furniture.

To avoid the dispersal of cockroaches from one room or living space to the other, it is important to create insecticidal barriers. This is done by applying residual treatments within the surrounding rooms of an infested area in addition to the infested room itself. This way, when the roaches leave their original location, they will come into contact with a pesticide that eliminates them before they can settle down in the next room. Neighbouring units within a multi-residential building should also be treated thoroughly for the same reason.

A cockroach infestation requires a professional to solve it. Some insecticides can be bought in stores, but they are more likely to encourage the spreading of roaches from one room to the next. At The Exterminators Inc., we combine a variety of treatments together to reach every cockroach and stop them from migrating. Our experienced technicians use what is called an ultra-light volume mist to draw the insects out of their hiding spots and poison them, then we apply residual insecticides in the room and its surrounding areas to ensure that any eggs that may hatch later will be eliminated as well. If you have a cockroach problem and want it solved, call us now and ask about our warranties.
