At a council meeting on October 9, 2020, the Region of Peel announced the approval of a 12-month pest control subsidy program that will save residents up to $200 per year on professional pest control services. The pilot program will offer a 50% rebate on the incurred costs of professional pest removal up to a maximum of $200 per year. Along with the program, the Region of Peel will study its rat problem and develop an Integrated Pest Management plan to address the root causes of the rodent infestations. Public health officials present at the meeting said that education will be a key component of the management plan. The subsidy program and study are in response to the growing number of rat infestations within the Peel Region and the concerns that residents have in paying for their control.
