Interior Mouse Control and Entry Point Sealing – Toronto Victorian Home

Job Overview

Location: Toronto, Ontario
Structure: Two-storey Victorian house
Problem: Interior mouse activity throughout the home
Service: Mouse control and exclusion
Visits: 6

Summary

We were called to address widespread interior mouse activity in a two-storey Victorian home in Toronto. Our team completed an interior mouse treatment combined with targeted exterior exclusion work. Follow-up visits were used to monitor activity and rebait stations as needed until the issue was fully resolved.

Background / Property Context

The structure was an older Victorian-style home with multiple foundation penetrations and utility entry points. These types of properties often have aged building materials and gaps around vents or plumbing lines that can allow rodents to enter, particularly at ground level.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported ongoing mouse activity inside the house, with signs observed in multiple interior areas. They were concerned about continued sightings and wanted both immediate population control and longer-term prevention.

Inspection & Findings

During the initial visit, our technician conducted a full interior inspection and confirmed active mouse presence. Exterior inspection identified several vulnerable entry points at the foundation level, including an open wall vent and gaps around plumbing penetrations. These openings were consistent with mouse access routes into the structure.

Cause Analysis

Mice commonly enter older homes through small gaps around vents and utility penetrations. In this case, the combination of an unsecured wall vent and unsealed plumbing openings provided direct access from the exterior into wall cavities. Once inside, the mice were able to move freely throughout the home.

Treatment / Removal

A licensed exterminator performed an interior mouse treatment in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines. Tamper-resistant bait stations containing commercial-grade rodenticide were installed inside the home to address the active population. The stations were placed strategically to ensure controlled access and ongoing monitoring.

Exclusion & Repairs

On the first visit, the homeowner approved exclusion work to address identified entry points. Our team completed the following:

  • Installation of a galvanized steel cage over a wall vent to prevent rodent entry
  • Sealing of two plumbing vent penetrations using silicone caulking

These measures were designed to block access while maintaining proper ventilation and utility function.

Outcome & Confirmation

Over visits two through five, interior and exterior bait stations were rebaited as required during the warranty period. By the final visit, interior mouse activity had fully ceased. The homeowner confirmed no further rodent activity, and no additional signs were observed during inspection.

Technician Notes

The initial inspection, treatment, and exclusion work were completed by our technician, Blerti. Follow-up visits focused on monitoring bait consumption and confirming that exclusion measures remained secure. All work was completed safely and in line with current pest control standards.
